Aaron Rodgers Still Shooting his Shot with Davante Adams

Ah! The Good Old Days....

Aaron Rodgers can't seem to let ex-teammate Davante Adams go and all this while the Chargers social media team is making the star receiver very very angry.

Davante Adams left Green Bay first before the 2022 season, in a St. Patrick's Day trade that netted the Packers both Quay Walker and Christian Watson. Then, following the 2022 season, it was time for long-time friend and teammate Aaron Rodgers to say goodbye too, this time in a trade to the AFC East's New York Jets. Green Bay said sayonara to their long-time quarterback, but weren't left empty handed, as they used the picks acquired from New York to obtain the rights to six total players; Lukas Van Ness, Luke Musgrave, Anders Carlson, Edgerrin Cooper, Jacob Monk, and Evan Williams.

Adams and Rodgers will always be connected. Few other quarterback/receiver combos gel quite like Rodgers and Adams did during their tenure in Green Bay. It was Adams who caught 69 touchdowns from the future Hall of Fame QB, four more than Rodgers' other most prolific pass catcher, Jordy Nelson. But it's hard to say goodbye....

Perhaps, that's why Aaron Rodgers can't seem to let Davante Adams go. Now the dynamic duo find themselves on opposite sides, with two separate AFC contenders. Still, Rodgers just can't seem to shake off the connection. 69 touchdowns are a hell of a lot, a fact not lost on #12. Rodgers doesn't shy away from the fact that he's still very interested in a reunion with his ex-teammate, this time in New York. During a recent appearance on the Kay Adams show, Adams had the following to say about Rodgers' ongoing recruitment efforts,

"He's in the ear, but it's not as easy. Obviously, we can get together and talk about the old times and the potential of doing this and that, but like I said, I'm a Raider and he knows that."

Rodgers may be shut down....for now. Adams was the subject numerous trade rumors during last year's lackluster Raiders' season. The team started 3-5 before finding their groove with new head coach Antonio Pierce and finishing a respectable 7-9. If the Raiders mange to hold onto their star receiver, Rodgers might have a bit of a wait before any reunion. Adams is set to be a free agent after the 2026 season when Rodgers will be 42 years old, which is ancient in NFL years.

Adams, for his part, is primed to have one of those All-Pro seasons we saw so frequently in Green Bay. He's finding some extra motivation in Los Angeles. The Chargers' social media team have set the future Packers Hall of Famer off by suggesting he is a garbage player. When asked about the disrespect, Davante told Kay Adams,

"There was a little trend a little bit ago where a few of the social media pages were posting some funny stuff when the schedule was releasing. They posted me and a trash can or something like that - the Chargers did. I thought about responding on social media to it and being funny there, but I figured it'd be better to just beat their head in real life and continuing to do it the way I do. Because my first game against them they clearly forgot. I had like 10 catches, 140 yards, and a touchdown. And the next time that same year it was like 177 yards and 2 touchdowns I think it was that game. I just kind of wanted to remind them of what they've been going through when it pertains to playing against me. Hopefully the people that made that post - because it's not the players' fault, they didn't have anything to do with the post, but this is directed strictly toward the Chargers' social media page. Please, keep my name out your mouth!"

Davante went further about the disrespect handed his way by Coach Jim Harbaugh's new team,

"They treat me like an old man, so I'm just gonna act like it. You know old people, old men, they don't think, they just say whatever they feel. That's how my grandpa is, at least. So, I'm just trying to be the old man they want me to be."

Fans should get their popcorn ready because the old man plays the Los Angeles Chargers twice in 2024, both to open and close their regular season.
