The Pick Is In: Packers Select Jordan Morgan

 

Packers New LT Jordan Morgan 

After months of agonizing over mock draft after mock draft, the pick is finally in and the Green Bay Packers have selected Arizona LT Jordan Morgan. Morgan is the very first 1st round tackle the Packers have taken since selecting Derek Sherrod in the 2011 NFL Draft. 

The pick was a bit surprising considering rumored top picks Cooper DeJean (DB, Iowa) and Graham Barton (C, Duke) were still on the board. Nonetheless, Morgan adds depth to an already stellar offensive line in Green Bay. 

At 6'5" and over 300 pounds the Arizona offensive lineman has great measurables and certainly looks the part. Morgan, an Arizona native, spent his first two years in college battling injuries before becoming a permanent fixture of the Arizona offensive line in 2021. Morgan graded out as excellent at the LT position before unfortunately tearing his ACL in late 2022. In 2023, he returned to the lineup, regaining his proper form as one of the top tackles in college football. 

Morgan excels at both pass blocking and run blocking and has the frame to play either guard or tackle. He has proven capability as a dominant blocker, especially excelling at the second level against linebackers. Morgan is known for fantastic grip strength and good overall quickness. 

Montgomery is best suited as a guard or a tackle in an offense that runs the ball frequently. With the Packers making the running game a focal point late last year, the re-signing of A.J. Dillon, and the addition of Josh Jacobs, Morgan may have found his perfect fit in Green Bay.

The Packers still have ten remaining picks in this year's draft, including two seconds and two thirds. Their needs include CB, DL, RB depth, and a backup QB. Some players to look out for tomorrow in rounds 2 and 3 included Cooper DeJean (DB, Iowa), Edgerin Cooper (LB, Texas A&M), Jer'Zhan Newton (DT, Illinois), and Kris Jenkins (DT, Michigan).
